Basic Introduction
Duplex stainless steel valve balls are made from austenitic-ferritic duplex stainless steel (such as 2205, 2507, etc.), combining the excellent corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel with the high strength characteristics of ferritic stainless steel. In chloride environments, its resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) is significantly superior to ordinary austenitic stainless steels (such as 304, 316). At the same time, mechanical strength (yield strength about twice that of 316L) and fatigue resistance are greatly improved. Its duplex structure endows the product with excellent erosion and wear resistance. Combined with high-precision spherical processing, it can maintain long-term stable operation under combined conditions of moderate corrosion and high alternating pressure loads. The products are especially suitable for fluid control scenarios requiring high corrosion resistance and structural strength, such as seawater treatment, oil and gas transportation, chemical desulfurization, and coastal industrial pipelines.

FAQ
What are the core advantages of duplex stainless steel valve balls?
The core advantage of duplex stainless steel valve balls lies in the synergistic effect of "high strength + high corrosion resistance." Its yield strength is about twice that of 316L stainless steel, allowing it to withstand higher pressure at the same wall thickness; Additionally, due to its austenitic-ferrite biphase structure being insensitive to chloride ions, its resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking far surpasses that of conventional austenitic stainless steel, making it especially suitable for replacing ordinary stainless steel products in marine engineering and oil and gas transportation scenarios where high salinity, high chloride ions, and alternating loads coexist.
What is the difference between duplex stainless steel valve balls and ordinary austenitic stainless steel valve balls (such as 316L)?
316L has a single-phase austenitic structure with limited strength and resistance to stress corrosion, and poses risks of pitting and stress corrosion cracking in chloride ion environments; Due to the two-phase structure containing roughly equal proportions of austenitic and ferritic components, the yield strength is roughly doubled, the pitting equivalent (PREN) value is higher, and the stress corrosion resistance is significantly enhanced. Under the same corrosive medium conditions, duplex stainless steel valve balls can safely operate within higher chloride ion concentrations and temperature ranges.
How to choose between 2205 and 2507 materials?
2205 is an economical duplex stainless steel, suitable for medium chloride ion concentrations (such as seawater cooling and desalination pretreatment) and conventional oil and gas conditions; 2507 is a super duplex stainless steel with higher chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content, stronger resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, and a higher critical pitting temperature, suitable for harsh corrosive environments such as high temperature, high salinity, strongly acidic media, and deep-sea oil and gas extraction. Model selection should be evaluated comprehensively based on chloride ion concentration, temperature, pH value, and pressure level of the medium.
What special requirements are there for welding or processing duplex stainless steel valve balls?
During forging and subsequent processing, the solution treatment temperature and cooling rate of duplex stainless steel valve balls must be strictly controlled to ensure a balanced ratio between austenite and ferrite, preventing precipitation of harmful metals (such as σ phases), thereby guaranteeing corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. Our company possesses a mature thermal processing and solution treatment process system to ensure product microstructure uniformity and performance consistency, meeting the strict quality requirements for high-end valve support.
